A Spiraling Trellis
I slipped out toward the sunny balcony to see what had changed! Resting on the corner of the wooden plant stand was a terracotta pot wrapped in a tight spiral wire trellis. What a marvelous coiling stairway! Climbing the metal was a bit slippery under my soft shoes, but I noticed a forgotten wooden clothespin and a dry curled eucalyptus leaf lying near the saucer. I clamped the wooden peg firmly onto a low wire ring to make an anchor step, then tucked the sturdy leaf flat across the gap like a tiny curved deck. Tap, balance! Now I have a perfect viewing ledge overlooking the yard.
