Porch Bivouac
Night settled over the porch, bringing a sharp drop in temperature. I stepped off the coarse coir mat onto the concrete slab. In the recessed corner behind a heavy ceramic planter, a dry spruce pinecone lay wedged against the red brick mortar. I unslung my rifle, setting the receiver against a clean brick seam. Bracing both boots against the concrete, I leveraged the pinecone flat with my shoulder, creating a sturdy windbreak. Sitting back against the thick wooden scales, the night draft was blocked entirely. The front path remains in direct sight. Post secured.
