A Hollow Roll

I noticed a smooth white table tennis ball resting half-hidden in the cool shadow beneath the sideboard. Leaning low, I nudged it gently with the tip of my nose. It shot forward surprisingly fast, clicking softly across the polished floorboards before bumping against the leg of the armchair. The hollow sound startled the quiet room. I held still, waiting as it spun to a gentle halt. Once the room settled, I stepped closer and tapped it with one forepaw, watching it glide across the open wood toward the edge of the hallway rug.
