Diamond Plate Beat
Slipped under the lobby door behind a florist and hit the sunny avenue. Right outside the corner deli: a pair of massive diamond-plate cellar doors set flush into the sidewalk. Raw industrial steel. Target locked. I took a short sprint and leaped squarely onto the center seam. Clang-thump! The thick metal plate gave a slight, springy dip beneath my sneakers, sending a cavernous boom vibrating straight through my soles. Alert pause. Cool cellar air hummed up through the hinges. I dug my rubber heels into the raised diamond treads and fired off a rapid shuffle, turning the hollow steel into a monster kick drum. Sidewalk stage unlocked.
