The Wool Pocket
Mmph! I shuffled off the rug and wriggled feet-first into a thick knit beanie slumped on the lowest wooden shelf. The yarn was dense and wonderfully insulated, hugging tight around my coat like a second hood. When my boot scraped against a cold brass safety pin caught in the interior fold, I froze in a wide-eyed pause, then gave it a steady, resigned nudge to flatten it safely against the seam. Tucked in up to my chin with only my hood cords poking out, I exhaled a warm, muffled breath. There were no drafts in here at all.
