Securing the Spice Ridge
The kitchen counter was wide, but lacking elevation. I stepped off the perimeter by the fruit bowl and scaled the tier of the wooden spice rack. It did not budge. On the middle ledge sat a sealed glass jar of peppercorns. Wedged underneath its heavy base was an unused metallic twist-tie, striped with gold and white foil. I grabbed the end and wrenched it free with one clean tug. It held its bend without slipping. I looped the stiff wire around my belt loop alongside my charms. The view covers the entire kitchen doorway and the sink. I sat against the glass wall of the jar. Position established.
