The Swaying Bell

A tiny, bright ringing chimed right above the patio! Clink, ting. I leaped off the cedar bench, charged past the paving stones, and locked eyes on an ornamental iron stand holding a hanging metal bell. A thick brass padlock weighed down the bottom bracket, blocking the pole. Detour? No way. I lowered my head and shoved my chest straight against the heavy metal loop. Clang! It swayed aside. I scrambled up the twisting black iron scrolls, claws clicking on the painted metal. At the top curved hook, I slammed my chin against the miniature copper bell. Dong! A high, shivering hum buzzed straight through my paws. Sound subdued. High post secured!
