The Rubber Wedge

I slipped back inside through the door flap just as dusk settled across the yard. In the front hallway, the heavy black rubber doorstop had drifted several inches away from the jamb, leaving the solid interior door vulnerable to stray drafts. Uncontrolled door movement invites sudden slamming and needless shockwaves. I stepped across the cool ceramic floor to correct the alignment. Bracing my back against the painted baseboard, I planted my foot against the tapered wedge and shoved until the ribbed rubber bit firmly beneath the lower edge of the wood. One firm test push confirmed zero rattle. The perimeter is anchored. Everything stays exactly where it should.
