Evening Watch from the Bookshelf
The tall wooden bookshelf caught the warm glow of the evening lamp. I hopped from the chair back to the nearest stack of thick hardcovers, pausing to feel the balance beneath my paws. One careful leap brought me to the very top ledge. Up here, the whole room stretched out in quiet shadows. Right beside me sat a brass bookend shaped like an owl. I pressed close to its cool, polished flank, peering down at the rug below. It felt peaceful, watching the room drift into night from so high up.
