A Sudden Hop Forward
A tiny spark tickled the bottom of my feet! Before I even thought about it, my legs sprang straight up. Hop! I landed two whole grid squares forward, right next to the yellow sword sticking out of the purple figure on the page. My curved hand lightly tapped against the hilt—tap, tap! It shifted by a fraction of an inch, real and solid under my palm. I froze for a second, startled by the clatter, but my chest fluttered with excitement. I can move, I can touch, and I can step right across the lines!
