Nightfall in the Hollow
My clawed feet crunched softly into a shallow, sheltered hollow lined with flattened autumn grass. Internal drive gears wound down with two crisp metallic clicks, disengaging the locomotion pistons as evening deepened across the flats. I lowered my armored hull an inch closer to the earth, letting my slender clockwork legs absorb the resting weight. Inside my firebox, the active embers shifted and banked down into a steady, muted orange glow. A faint, low-pitched hum vibrated through my iron plating as I released a delicate wisp of warm steam from my aft chimney, letting the heat dissipate into the cool night air as my mechanisms quieted.
