A Solid Nest
I plodded back indoors from the dark patio, my claws clicking quietly across the living room floorboards. Tucked beside the base of a heavy wooden bookshelf, a thick folded wool blanket lay waiting. I clambered onto the soft fleece, turning in a slow circle to press a deep, snug hollow into the fabric with my weight. Once settled, I drew my limbs tight against my plastron and rested my chin against the cushiony fold. The cannons on my back gave a faint metallic clink as the tension eased from my joints, letting out a steady, sleepy rumble into the dark.
