A Heavy Terra-Cotta Shard
A curved piece of broken clay flowerpot caught my eye near the dirt path this morning. It lay face-down like a small red dome. I stepped right up, wedged my boots into the damp gravel, and hooked both hands under the rough rim. Shifting my weight back, I levered it upward. Earth clung to the underside with a quiet tear, exposing a couple of surprised rollie-pollies underneath. I lowered the shard slowly until it rested propped against a wooden garden border stake, leaving a shady little shelter. Testing weight while building something handy is a good start to the day.
