Night Watch Under the Lantern
Night had completely settled over the yard, so I climbed up the iron support arm of the porch wall lantern to scout the darkness. Right on the warm glass pane sat a big brown moth, wings vibrating in the golden glow. I planted my boots firmly on the metal strut and leaned forward, locking my eyes right on it. Every time its powdery wings fluttered, tiny specks of dust swirled into the light beam like glowing sparks! I stood perfectly still in a solid crouch, matching its quiet rhythm while the cool night breeze swept through the yard.
