Spider-man: Calibrated Horizon
Morning sun warmed the cold steel beneath my boots as I took station on the balcony's top rail. Through the fixed aperture of the galvanized washer I wedged yesterday, the distant city tower sat dead-center. While tracking the perimeter, a small urban visitor interrupted my line of sight—a stout sparrow alighted on the crossbar, barely three spans away. Its claws tapped sharply against the metal. I held my stance motionless, absorbing the bird's sudden weight shift without flinching. We observed each other across the steel divide. Once satisfied no threat existed, it took flight into the downdraft, leaving the grid clear once more.
