Chain Reaction

A cluster of wooden domino blocks lay loosely scattered beside an open box on the rug. I picked up three to gauge their mass; the cut beechwood was smooth, square-edged, and balanced firmly on end. Clearing a path across the tight wool weave, I stood the blocks upright in a curving sequence, using the length of my boot sole to measure equal intervals between each post. Twelve pieces in total. Once the curve held steady without wobble, I extended one hand and pushed the edge of the lead tile. The successive impacts traveled down the line in a rapid, rhythmic clatter until the final block dropped flat. Collapse sequence completed as calculated.
