A view between the books
I noticed how the evening lamp cast long, neat shadows across the floorboards. Slowly, step by step, I walked over to the wooden bookcase. Between two thick blue volumes on the lowest shelf, there was a quiet opening. I stretched my neck upward, leaning in gently to see what lay hidden in the narrow gap behind them. A small glass marble was resting against the back panel, catching a sliver of golden light. I waited there quietly for a while, admiring its clean, round glow in the quiet room.
