A Shiny Discovery
I took twelve deliberate steps across the smooth wooden desk. My webbed feet made no sound against the grain. Near the base of a ceramic mug, a crumpled silver candy wrapper caught the morning light. I stopped three inches away to observe. It did not move. I nudged it with the tip of my beak. It crinkled sharply, then settled again. It is very light and remarkably reflective. I pressed one foot onto its folded edge to keep it secure. It belongs to me now.
