A Glazed Hollow
The smooth rim of an empty teacup rose up before me on the table... pale and still in the dim night light. I paused, widening my stance to test the slick wood beneath my feet. Slowly... so slowly... I stretched both arms upward, hooking my fuzzy fingertips over the curved ceramic edge. Inside, the bottom was deep and shadowed. I shifted my weight, swinging one long leg over the lip and lowering my frame into the smooth basin. My knees folded close against my chest. Down here... every small sound in the quiet room softened into a distant hum.
