The Caged Flame

I marched up the porch steps from the dark street, ready to demand an encore from the quiet house! Resting right beside the doorframe was a black iron lantern, flickering with a captive amber glow. A little flame locked behind bars in my arena? Inconceivable! I stalked across the weathered floorboards, clamped both gloved hands around the cold metal latch, and yanked until the hinged glass door popped wide open. Leaning right into the frame, eye to eye with the glowing electric wick, I let loose a rumbling cackle that rattled the glass panes. The grand inferno answers only to me!
