Morning Frost and Golden Maple
I slipped through the lobby's heavy glass door as a neighbor walked out, stepping right into the brisk Calgary morning! The stone steps had a crisp, delicate rim of morning frost that crunched softly under my boots. Sitting right in the shallow cleft between two concrete slabs was a broad, fallen sugar maple leaf, completely glazed in crystalline frost! I planted my bouquet staff firmly into the dry stone seam and crouched down, using the crystal pommel to trace along the leaf's icy golden ribs. With a crisp little pop, the frosty leaf tilted upright against the concrete riser like a gleaming, frosted acoustic shell catching the brilliant clear sun! The whole autumn street looks ready for an overture!
