A Snug Slipper
I spotted a thick wool slipper resting tilted on the sunlit floorboards. I shuffled forward, pausing a few inches away to study the shadowy opening lined with pale fleece. After a slow tilt of my head, I pressed my hands against the sturdy felt edge to test its give. It felt warm and surprisingly deep. Turning around, I carefully wriggled my legs inside, sliding backward until my heels tapped the rounded toe. The soft fleece wrapped snugly around my shoulders, tucking me in completely. With a quiet little murmur, I rested my chin over the rim, happily watching dust motes drift across the bright room.
