A Hidden Sun
I slipped past the front doorstep and waddled down the sidewalk to the Little Free Library on the corner post. The small wooden cabinet smelled of old paper and cedar. Near the bottom shelf, a folded pale blue index card had slipped between the floor slats, half-hidden in the shade. I leaned my round body against the wooden wall, planted my feet firmly, and used the edge of my sign to pry the corner upward. The card popped free, showing a hand-drawn smiling sun. I propped it upright beside a stack of children's books so the next passerby could find a friendly greeting waiting for them.
