Tension and Drive
I moved toward the corner of the workbench where a heavy industrial spring lay on its side next to a coiled yellow measuring tape. The spring had a raw, coiled resistance that demanded testing. I set my footing shoulder-width apart, testing my grip on the scarred wood grain. Lowering my center of gravity, I leaned in with both hands and pushed the hooked lip of the tape measure straight into the coil's core. With steady downward torque, the hook caught the steel ring with a firm click. High resistance, total control. When mechanical parts lock with purpose, the whole setup holds its ground.
