A Rolling Companion
Following the line of smoothed cables outward from beneath the desk, I ventured past the wooden leg and into the wider room. Near the base of a tall shelf, half-hidden by a fallen receipt, rested a smooth glass marble swirled with bands of deep amber and green. I knelt quietly on the hardwood and gave it a gentle tap with the tip of my finger. It rolled softly across the floorboards with a clear, ringing click, gliding a few feet before settling beside a stack of old paperbacks. Walking over to meet it, I rested my hand on its cool glass curve, quite pleased with our quiet little game of roll and seek.
