Taking the Pedal for a Spin

Sitting inside wasn't cutting it anymore. I shoved through the lower door flap and dropped squarely onto the cool stone stoop. Right by the curb, someone had parked a towering black bicycle against the railing. I marched over, grabbed the greasy crank arm, and jumped both feet onto the serrated pedal! The whole gear gave a deep, metallic clunk and swung around under my weight, giving me a wild ride down toward the pavement before locking into place. It's built like a siege engine. This street is full of real iron, and I'm claiming every bit of it.
