A Slanted Beam
A warm rectangle of midday light had settled across the wooden floorboards, stretching toward the base of the low bookshelf. I took slow, steady steps toward it. At the edge of the shelf, a thick wool coaster rested half-propped against a heavy paperweight. I paused to inspect it. Lowering my head, I nudged the dense wool with my muzzle until it slid down flat against the warm wood. I stepped onto the soft felt, letting the sun and textured wool cushion my hooves as I sat quietly.
