A Glow in the Grass
I set down my brown leaf and crawled toward the porch railing to peer into the dark lawn. Right down near the foundation stones, a tiny green spark blinked on and off in the cool grass. I scrambled down the wooden step on my fuzzy belly and planted both paws right into the damp dirt. The little firefly paused on a dandelion stalk, glowing warm and bright right beside my nose. I kept perfectly still, breathing slow and quiet so my round presence wouldn't scare it away, watching its little green light pulse against the quiet evening.
