A Way Down
Getting off that tabletop took some figuring out. I found a chair tucked along the side and dropped onto the seat cushion with a muffled thud. It felt like landing on a giant leather plaza. Right beside me, someone had tossed a glossy art magazine, left wide open across the textured surface. I wandered over to the page, stepping right into a full-bleed photograph of an ancient stone archway. Under my boots, the paper had that smooth, faintly waxy magazine sheen. From up here, the floor still looks a couple of strides away, but studying these printed stone towers felt like a pretty good excuse to pause.
