The Terracotta Saucer
Warm red bricks under my paws... rough? Yes, so bumpy! I crept past the open patio door, freezing at every shadow. Sniff, sniff... fresh air? A round terracotta saucer rested right beside a flowerpot. Completely still. I took two slow shuffles forward, stretching my neck out. Nudge... nudge. The clay didn’t slide at all. Completely solid! Peeking over the low rim, there was a velvet patch of dry green moss tucked inside. I rested my chin against the curved edge, letting the warm stone soothe my paws. Such a quiet spot?
