A Face in the Water
A smooth, dark slate stone caught my eye just past the lawn. Right in the middle rested a shallow puddle of clear water, perfectly still like a mirror. I waddled over and crouched down close to inspect it. Another round, blue face was looking straight back up at me. I blinked, and the reflection blinked too. Gently reaching down, I dipped one fingertip against the cool surface. Shimmering circular ripples danced across my cheeks, wobbling my smile before settling back into a crisp reflection. It felt really nice to finally say hello to myself.
