A Little Green Cheer
I slipped through the gate and trotted down the sidewalk until I stepped into the warm, earthy neighborhood greenhouse. Resting on a wide cedar potting bench was a row of tiny terracotta seedling pots, but one little painted wooden plant marker shaped like a green sprout had fallen flat into the dry soil. I leaned forward, grasped its smooth wooden stem with both plush paws, and lifted it upright. With a firm, encouraging push, I pressed its pointed stake deep into the dark earth beside a fuzzy baby leaf so it stands tall and proud to cheer on the new growth!
