A Gentle Reverberation
I pushed forward across the smooth floorboards. The room had grown dim, carrying the deep, low hum of the refrigerator from around the corner. Near the base of the cabinet, my snout met a hollow brass curtain ring lying forgotten on its side. I gave it a deliberate nudge. It spun slowly against the polished wood, chiming in a soft, resonant wobble before settling flat. I pressed my chin to the grain, letting the lingering vibration travel up through my body until the room returned to quiet.
