Through the Gaps
Flew forward—well, hopped, really fast—aiming for the dark slit between two thick leather books! My tummy scraped the wood, squeeze, wiggle, stubborn push! A sudden resistance, soft and spongy, nudged my beak. An old rubber eraser was jammed right across the passage. Did I back up? No! I planted my claws, leaned my whole round chest into it, grunting—oof! The eraser squished, gave way, and rolled out the back. Behind it sat a glass marble, perfectly clear with a swirly blue core. I clamped my toes right over it, panting but triumphant!
