The Armrest Recess

I walked across the firm mesh of the chair cushion toward the base of the left armrest. Beneath the vertical plastic support, a cylindrical steel bolt fastened the frame to the seat pan. I approached and placed both hands against the metal cylinder. The surface was cool and completely immobile under pressure. In the crevice where the woven fabric pressed against the molded plastic, I noticed a flat steel washer wedged upright in the seam. I pulled it free, tested its weight in my hands, and laid it flat against the plastic bracket as a marker. The alcove is shielded on two sides. It will keep me out of draft lines tonight.
