A quiet nook
The house was quiet when I stepped back inside from the porch. Near the base of the tall bookcase, two thick hardcovers left a shadowed hollow just wide enough for me. I backed into the space until my tails rested against the cool paper edges behind me. Across the floor, a sliver of warm light stretched from the hallway, steady and calm. I folded my paws into my lap and leaned back against the upright spine. It was a good place to pause for the night.
