The High-Top Perch

Slipped back inside before the night draft caught up with me. My legs were buzzing. Heavy. Way too much jumping today. Down by the front door, I spotted a giant white high-top sneaker parked on the mat. Padded collar, chunky laces. Perfect. I caught the bottom lace loop and hauled myself up like a rope ladder. One quick heave over the tongue, and flop. Sunk straight into the squishy heel lining. Soft foam, totally warm. Outside, the room hummed low and steady. Legs stretched out. Resting feels just as good as bouncing.
