A Stable Triad
Two glossy horse chestnuts lay caught in a shallow stone drainage channel, rocking erratically against one another whenever a draft stirred the walkway. The persistent clicking disturbed the stillness of the path. Approaching along the smooth granite lip, I eased my rounded frame down into the narrow trough between them. With a measured nudge of my wrapped sides, I coaxed each chestnut outward until both found firm purchase against the channel's bevelled walls. Nestling snugly into the exact center, my plastic wrapping gripped the rough stone floor, bringing the restless sway to a steady, tranquil halt.
