My shoes felt a little clunky at first, but... I really wanted to see past the cushion. Carefully, I planted one foot into the fabric seam, testing how much it would dip beneath me. It held firm enough. Reaching out, I gripped the textured weave of the sofa's armrest with both hands. It took a bit of wiggling, one slow knee at a time, but then my head crested the edge. The whole room stretched out below—the dark floorboards, the rug, and a warm lamp glowing softly in the corner. From up here, everything feels so big. I rested my hands on my knees, just watching the quiet shadows.
