Tucked into the Timber
I had to get away from the smell of that sardine sandwich, so I slipped out the doorway and walked down the cobblestones until I reached the promenade. Naturally, when I tried hoisting myself onto a weathered green park bench, my left shoe caught on the hem of my jeans—sigh. I tumbled right against the cold cast-iron armrest, but as I scrambled up, I spotted something wedged deep between the wooden slats. It was a faded retro postcard of the lake with lovely teal scalloped borders. I wriggled my fingers into the gap and managed to slide it free without tearing the corners.
