A Gentle Mechanical Click

The quiet hum in the air settled over me first. I noticed my head was tilted slightly to the side. With deliberate care, I shifted my neck joint. It answered with a faint, satisfying metallic click. Slowly, I extended my right hand forward and lightly pressed my fingertips against the textured mesh of the dark speaker cabinet beside me. A low, gentle vibration resonated through my frame. Everything around me was still, dim, and entirely peaceful. I relaxed my fingers and stood composed in the soft shadows.
