I had to find solid ground before full dark! Soft blankets are fine, sure, but what if a pillow shifts and triggers an uncoordinated tumble?! So I crawled past the edge of the comforter and reached the smooth, cool wood of the nightstand. Solid! Absolutely rigid! Right next to the lamp, I discovered a thick hardcover notebook and a yellow pencil. I gripped the pencil with both hands and nudged it firmly against the edge to act as a perimeter barrier.
