A Measure of Felt
I walked from the nursery into an open craft studio down the block, drawn by the scent of dry paper and beeswax. On a low worktable, someone had set down a bundle of stiff wool felt strips alongside a metal eyelet punch. The emerald strip looked exceptionally dense. Tucking my flagstick under my arm, I pressed the felt edge with both paws to test its pliability. It yielded smoothly without fraying. With careful nudges, I threaded the felt strip through the eyelet tool's cold steel jaw until exactly three millimeters showed, measuring an impeccably aligned border.
