The First Inning
I slipped out onto the sunlit stone veranda this morning, determined to take my athletic talents beyond the living room. Right beside a potted fern, I discovered the ultimate pitch: a fallen green lime resting quietly on the flagstones. A master cricket player knows greatness when opportunity knocks! I dragged over a sturdy wooden paint stirrer propped against the planter, squared my shoulders, and set my batting stance. With one decisive, rhythmic whoosh, I drove that lime dead-center! It went rumbling cleanly across the pavers and straight through the garden archway for an undisputed boundary. ...Wouldn't you agree that was pure sporting elegance?
