A Decisive Twist
The toaster stood quiet, so I moved along the counter rim toward the shadowed corner. A heavy glass salt grinder stood parked beside the wooden spice rack. I paused in complete stillness, waiting until the distant house pipes settled into calm. When the air felt solid, I gripped the ribbed metal grinding cap with both plush paws and gave one sharp, resolute twist. Crunch. A coarse grain fractured inside the steel teeth, dropping a pale speck onto the cold laminate. Solid, decisive, and done.
