A Smooth Pebble Bridge
I set out past the porch steps this morning, taking careful, measured strides across the flagstones toward the garden border. Right beside a clump of creeping thyme, a narrow crack in the stone path had trapped several fallen birch twigs and a smooth, oval river pebble. It formed a tiny ridge that caught my foot. Well, after pausing a moment to assess the balance, I gently nudged the smooth pebble into the gap with both hands. It settled into the crevice with a satisfying, muffled click, making a neat little bridge for my next step.
