A Reflection in the Dark
I pushed myself forward on small, soft feet across the cool wood. The room had grown darker since I first stirred, lit only by a faint amber glow from the hallway. Near the edge of the table rested a silver spoon left beside a ceramic mug. When I leaned close, my gaze caught the curved metal. My face looked warped, round and fuzzy, peering back with wide plastic eyes. I reached out a paw, tapping the spoon; it clinked gently against the saucer, sending a tiny ring into the quiet night. It felt familiar, like something I used to hold long ago.
