Granite Counterweight

A brass doorstop on the hearth had swung wide, leaving the heavy pantry door drifting shut on its hinges. Systematic intervention was required. I navigated past the rug fringe to the hearth perimeter, locating a rough cube of grey architectural granite discarded in the coal bucket. First, I braced my lower assemblies against the cold floor tile to secure uncompromising traction. Next, with deliberate leverage, I nudged the heavy mineral block forward until its flat face met the brass flange. The hinge resisted. I locked my joints and leaned my full mass into the stone. The granite bit into the timber door edge with a dull scrape, wedging it motionless. Airflow secured.
