A Slight Shift

The stillness broke without warning. I felt weight settle into my feet, grounding me against the flat surface. Keeping my eyes fixed forward, I tested the tension in my right hand, curling the fingers inward just enough to feel the grip loosen and tighten. Beside me, the colorful figures stood motionless against the pixelated castle wall. I took a slow breath, gently turned my wrist to touch the textured backdrop behind us, and confirmed the perimeter. Quiet ground. I lowered my hand, settling into position, ready to watch.
