A Gentle Gust
A sudden gust came rustling through the fence pickets while I sat along the gravel path. My open green book gave a tiny flutter, and the slender striped feather resting on the page lifted right into the air. It drifted a few inches before catching neatly against the knitted brim of my lap. I reached out both paws very slowly, smoothing the striped quill back down between the fabric leaves. Holding it firm against my plush tummy, I took a peaceful breath and listened to the tall grasses whisper all around.
